Detroit Regional Convention Facility Authority Offers Shuttle Service for Large Events
DETROIT – Monday, April 12, 2010 – The Detroit Regional Convention Facility Authority has awarded its bus shuttle service contract to Trinity Transportation Group, Inc. of Wyandotte. This contract primarily gives the Authority the ability to offer its larger clients transportation to and from their hotels.
Discontinued since the transition of Cobo Center from the city of Detroit to the regional authority, DRCFA members sought to continue this service in their effort to attract larger conventions and conferences.
“In its current size, Cobo Center has the ability to accommodate more than 90 percent of the events in the industry,” said Waymon Guillebeaux, DRCFA member representing the city of Detroit. “In order to be successful in landing some of the larger conventions and conferences, we have to be committed to providing shuttle service for delegates from regional hotels to Cobo over the duration of their stay.”
In the past, revenue from a $1 surcharge on public show admissions funded the cost of the shuttle service. This plan will continue under the Authority.
An RFP was posted on February 2, 2010 for a one year service contract to provide Shuttle Bus and Transportation Services to the Authority. Bid responses were received from five bus service providers.
