Cobo Center Exterior Construction Creates New Traffic and Access Patterns

DETROIT September 19, 2014  CONSTRUCTION ADVISORY: construction has begun on the new main canopy to support the Washington Blvd. video screen, changing drop off/pick up areas and main entrance access to the facility.

The traditional main entrance to Cobo off Washington Blvd. in front of the Joe Louis Statue will be closed, and the Congress St. entrance is closed, along with the entrance near the food court to accommodate the Cobo Square construction.  The main entrances will temporarily be the two sets of glass doors off the concourse in front of Detroit Hall and Macomb Hall (Halls A&B).

Drop off/pick up at Cobo Center on Washington Blvd. is possible between Larned and Congress only.  The Cobo Atwater St. entrance is available for drop off/pick up only.

Handicap access to the facilities and ample handicap parking continues to be available in all Cobo parking areas.  East bound Jefferson at Washington is currently one lane between the UAW building and Washington, and both lanes will close beginning the week of October 6.

The Washington Blvd. Garage and Rooftop Parking remain open, as well as the Cobo Congress St. Garage when available. Visitors attending ballroom area events should park on the rooftop and access the building from the new building entrance on the southeast corner of the roof.

The People Mover station in Cobo Center continues to operate during construction.
