The
General Information material is given
as general guidelines for all those
considering any use of Cobo Conference/Exhibition
Center. These guidelines are provided
to assist you in planning your events.
Should you have any questions or circumstances
not covered within these guidelines
please contact our sales division
so that we may assist you.
SERVICES
Events Services:
Events Services division should be
contacted for assistance and information
when preparing for your convention/meetings/meals
at Cobo Center. Prior to your arrival,
an Event Coordinator will be assigned
to work with you. The Event Services
Division may be reached at (3l3) 877-8777.
Food and Beverage Services:
Food and Beverage Services must be
provided by Aramark Corporation, the
exclusive caterer for Cobo Center.
The arrangement of the room, i.e.,
tables, chairs, speaker's platform,
etc., will be handled by the Event
Services office of Cobo Center while
menu and serving arrangements are
provided by the caterer. Catered events
must utilize a minimum of 50% of assigned
room meal capacity as determined by
the Cobo Center. Our caterer may be
reached at (3l3) 567-1512.
Water Service:
If water is required in the meeting
rooms, it must be ordered in advance
through the catering office. There
is no charge for water ordered for
speaker's tables or a centrally located
water station.
Scheduled Room Use:
A listing of all rooms to be used
each day, with type of function (meeting,
luncheon, office, etc.) and times
to be used should be sent to your
Event Coordinator eight (8) weeks
in advance of the function.
Security:
In certain areas used by Permittee,
i.e., offices and equipment storage
rooms, it is advisable for your security
and convenience to change the locks
of these rooms from the general house
system to a special security series.
There is a one-time charge of $20.00
per room for this service. This service
must be ordered from your Event Coordinator
three weeks prior to the start of
your move-in. Security guards are
hired from private firms at Permittee's
expense. Under certain conditions
Cobo Center may require that you hire
private security.
AUDIO/VISUAL
Microphones:
Microphones can be installed in meeting
rooms that have built-in sound systems
and all Exhibit Halls. There is a
$25.00 charge for each microphone,
per day. A maximum of five (5) microphones
may be rented from Cobo Center. If
more are needed they must be rented
from an Audio Visual Contractor.
Projection Equipment:
Cobo Center does not have projection
equipment available. You may either
bring your own projector and screen
or rent them from an outside source.
If you provide your own, please bring
sufficient UL approved extension cords.
Hired labor must be union workers.
Union projectionists must be used
in the Exhibit Halls, Riverview Ballroom
W1-51/52, and Ambassador Dining Room
W2-60.
Union Labor:
Union Labor is required for audio
and video activities when extensive
use is made of sound, light, spotlights,
recording or broadcasting equipment.
Hired labor must be union labor. To
avoid problems, please inform your
Event Coordinator of all aspects of
your program.
EXHIBITS/SIGNAGE
Table Top Exhibits:
Table Top Exhibits are permitted during
small private events to display material
in meeting rooms without the use of
a show contractor. These displays
usually use the building's tables.
Display space is restricted to the
top of one 30" x 8' table surface
and one rolling rack. The caterer
or exhibitor may top and/or skirt
the table with a flame retardant table
cover using clips. No staples or tape
may be used. No labor is available
to assist the exhibitors in the setting
up or movement of their display materials,
and materials brought are to be such
that no help is needed. These materials
are to be hand carried by one person
in one trip without the use of a hand
cart. One rolling rack of clothing
may be included in the solitary trip
allowance. In erecting the display,
the use of tools is prohibited. Only
entrance doors on the River Level,
the southeast entrance doors on the
First floor, and entrances from building
garages are to be used. Exhibitor
electrical needs must be discussed
in advance with your Event Coordinator.
Your organization is responsible
for the adherence of these regulations
and must remove any exhibitor who
does not comply. All aspects of the
event must be thoroughly discussed
with your Event Coordinator.
Transporting Materials:
Cobo Center personnel transport and
set up building-owned equipment only.
If you will be bringing equipment
such as file cabinets, boxes, displays,
other materials that you cannot hand
carry, or erecting displays, you must
hire the labor from a show contractor
to transport these items within the
building. You may hand carry in items
in one trip without the aid of material
handling equipment. All shipments
should be timed to arrive on your
day of move-in or on the event day.
Cobo Center does not have warehouse
facilities.
Exhibits:
Exhibits for conventions, trade shows,
commercial events and public shows
are handled through privately hired
show contractors. For further information,
refer to Exhibit and Exhibit Hall
Guidelines.
Directional Signage:
It is strongly recommended that signs
be provided inside Cobo Center to
direct attendees. Cobo Center will
assist by providing event directories
at several locations throughout the
center. Consult your Event Coordinator
as to the number of signs you will
need and recommendations for placement.
Signs, banners, or posters may not
be taped, nailed, or fastened to the
Building walls.
Stickers:
Distribution of stickers is prohibited.
DECORATING/STAGING
EQUIPMENT
Skirting/Table Covers:
The standard room set-up does not
provide skirting for platforms or
head tables. Tables used for dining
and food service will be covered by
the caterer. Consult with the caterer
or your Event Coordinator.
Meeting Rooms:
The rental of the meeting rooms includes
the original room set-up of platforms,
lecterns, tables, chairs, etc. Your
needs should be communicated to your
Event Coordinator four weeks in advance.
It is emphasized that all arrangements
for your event must be made prior
to your arrival. Last minute requests
are subject to equipment and labor
availability.
Room Resets:
Major day to day changes in a room
arrangement will be charged at the

This charge is waived for rooms changed
from a meeting set-up to a catered
meal function, providing the room
is used for not less than 50% of its
meal capacity. Rooms used as stated
for banquet purposes will be reset
for a meeting without charge.
Platforms/Risers:
Risers for platforms are available
for use in meeting rooms. The risers
are 4' x 8' and range in height from
8" to 40" in 8" increments.
Nailing or Taping:
Nailing or Taping material to building
walls or pillars or other surfaces
is strictly prohibited. Consult with
your Event Coordinator for guidance
in decorating and signage placement.
UTILITIES/ENVIRONMENT
Electrical Power:
Electrical power is provided in Exhibit
Halls by contractor holding exclusive
contract and license for Cobo Center.
Twenty amp power outlets are available
throughout the building meeting rooms;
power requirements beyond 20 amp must
be provided by the exclusive electrical
contractor.
Telephone Service:
Telephone service is available through
the Cobo Center on a limited basis
for Show Management only. The charge
for each single line is $150.00 and
includes installation, instrument,
local calls and removal. There will
be additional charges for toll and
long distance calls. All other telephone
lines and services required are procured
directly from SBC by calling their
business office at (313) 223-9198
and asking for Exhibitor phone service.
Lighting:
Lighting levels in the Riverview Ballroom
(W1-51/52), must be ordered in advance
through Event Services. Special lights
and follow spots are available for
a fee from an approved electrical
contractor. Meeting rooms have fluorescent
and dimmable incandescent lighting.
Cleaning:
Cleaning of Cobo Center is performed
by Metro Services Organization, (313)
259-6535, usually on the midnight
shift. If you have special needs,
please advise your Event Coordinator.
Smoking:
Smoking is prohibited in the public
areas of the building except in designated
smoking areas.
Heating/Air Conditioning:
Comfortable room temperatures will
be maintained during event hours.
Requests for air conditioning outside
of event hours should be directed
to your Event Coordinator.
Aforementioned rates and conditions
are subject to change without notice.
Should any questions arise as to the
interpretation of this information,
the decision of Cobo Center shall
be final in every respect.
